Leopard
Apple has released another cat, Leopard. They have also put another cat to sleep, Panther. Unfortunately this cat is not quite as tame as it should be. It bites rather hard, so to speak, when you try to get it to do things it does not want to do.
Now to stop speaking in metaphors using Apple's rather quaint system of naming their operating systems.
Last Friday Apple released Mac OS 10.5.0. As they have done before they discontinued support for an older operating system, Mac OS 10.3.x. The latest operating system includes features that are amazing. Unfortunately some of those very features are not working quite as well as hoped. There are also some bugs showing up that are quite nasty for some users. On top of that some of the DVD media that the new operating system is on seem to be defective.
As with all operating system upgrades, it will take time for this software to mature and be updated as well to work. This time there is an added hitch. At the last minute before releasing the operating system Apple disabled things that are important to some kinds of software so software publishers had to wait for the release of 10.5.0 to actually test their software to make sure it is compatible. This means that for the end user it pays to be cautious.
We seldom recommend using the .0 version of any software. In this case, we definitely recommend waiting until at least the .1 is added to 10.5.x before jumping on it. If you have to have it, you can purchase it from us and we will help you install it. If you have already installed it and are having issues, we would be glad to help you.
